I find that the two most important things an online student needs to succeed is organization and discipline. I think it is imperative that every student considering the online experience take a good look at their study habits and decide if they have what it takes to succeed.
Every class online is different as every instructor has a different way of working, so students need to be able to recognize how a class is structured and then adapt it to their own structure so that they will not fall behind. It is a good idea to figure out what works best for you and then stick to that structure as best you can throughout your studies.
Discipline plays a major role in not falling behind as most online students will spend more time working on their classes than students who attend regular face-to-face sessions. Every online student must consider if they will be able to go online daily to check their classes to find out about any changes or new material.
There are other facets of online instruction to take into consideration before enrolling such as online technical ability, but this can be learned. Being highly organized and having a strong discipline are something every online student should have prior to starting instruction or their chances of failure are pretty good.
